Adolescent Content, Inc.
The Storyteller and Youthteller app
Version 1.3 · 16 September 2026
1 · Who we are
Adolescent Content, Inc. runs two membership networks inside one app.
Storyteller is a network for creative professionals. Directors, photographers, editors, designers, writers and other makers who want to work on paid briefs, build a portfolio, and find other people to work with.
Youthteller is a research network. Young people who get paid to take part in surveys, studies, think tanks, interviews and trend spotting, and whose collective answers become the insight reports we sell to clients.
You can be a member of one network or both. If you are in both, you have one account with two memberships.
This policy explains what we collect, why, who sees it, and what you can do about it. It covers the app only. Our website has its own policy.
Contact: community@adolescentcontent.com
2 · The short version
We are not trying to bury anything, so here is the whole thing in nine lines.
You must be 13 or older. Under 13 we do not create an account and we do not keep your information.
We collect what you tell us, plus a small amount about how you use the app.
We ask some sensitive questions about identity, because paid research is our business and clients buy demographic insight. Every one of them is optional.
If you are under 18 we ask fewer of them, and the two we do ask are only asked once a guardian has agreed.
Your demographic answers stay inside Adolescent if you are under 18. They never go to a client, not even inside a total.
Clients see totals, not you, unless you specifically say yes to being named.
We do not sell your information.
You can delete your account from inside the app, including if you are suspended.
Ask us anything at community@adolescentcontent.com.
3 · Who can use the app
You have to be 13 or older. We ask for your real date of birth when you sign up. It is a date field, not a tick box, because we have to know.
If you tell us you are under 13, we stop. No account is created. We do not store what you entered. We will tell you plainly that you are not eligible and you will not be able to immediately try again with a different date.
If you are between 13 and 17 you can join, browse, post and take part in the community. Two things change. Paid work needs a guardian to agree first, and some questions are either not asked of you at all or not asked until a guardian has agreed. Section 7 explains both.
Your app store may also check your age. Several US states now require app stores to confirm a user's age bracket and, for minors, that a parent has approved the download. Where the app store gives us that signal, we use it. If the age the app store reports and the date of birth you gave us disagree, we apply the protections for the younger of the two.
4 · What we collect, and why
4.1 What you give us when you sign up
What
Why we need it
First and last name
To know who you are, and for contracts and payment
Email address
To sign you in and reach you
Date of birth
Age eligibility, and whether guardian consent applies
Country, state, city, postal code
Matching you to work near you, and to describe the network by region
Handle or display name
What other members see
Pronouns, if you want to give them
Your profile. Optional on both networks
Profile photo
Your profile
Bio
Your profile
If you are in both networks, your photo, bio and handle are separate for each one. The same person presents differently to a brand client than to a research panel, and we think that is reasonable rather than deceptive. Your name, date of birth, contact details and location are shared across both and are only asked once.
4.2 What you give us to unlock paid work
You do not have to fill this in to use the app. You have to fill it in to apply for paid opportunities, because clients and producers are choosing from it.
Storyteller: your discipline or role, the kinds of work you make, your genre focus, the software you use, the equipment you own, the kinds of opportunity you want, links to your portfolio, website and social accounts.
Youthteller: your interests and topic focus, whether you are in school and what grade, your education status, your career interests, how you prefer to take part in research, your social links, and the research categories you want to hear about.
Both: a second email and a phone number, if you want to give them. Both optional. At least one social link is required on both networks.
4.3 The sensitive questions
On both networks we ask about racial identity and gender identity.
On Youthteller we also ask adult members about sexual identity, political affiliation and religious background. These three are asked on Youthteller only, because Youthteller is where the research that uses them runs. Storyteller members are never asked them.
We ask because this is genuinely what the business does. Adolescent runs paid research and sells insight about young people to clients, and demographic composition is a large part of what makes that research worth buying. It is also how we check that a panel actually represents the people it claims to.
Four rules apply to all of it.
Every one is optional. Each has a real "prefer not to say" option that does not penalise you, does not reduce your chances, and does not appear differently to staff than any other answer.
If you are under 18 we do not ask you about sexual identity, political affiliation or religious background at all. Those questions do not appear in your app. Minors are not included in the studies that use those fields, so nothing is lost by not asking.
If you are under 18 we do not ask you about racial or gender identity until a parent or guardian has agreed. Those two questions stay hidden until consent is on file, which happens the first time you apply for paid work. Once it is on file, they appear and they remain optional.
Individual answers never go to a client without your specific permission. What clients buy is the total: how many people, what proportions, across a network of thousands. A named list with identity attached is a different thing and needs you to agree to it separately, each time.
If you are under 18, your demographic answers are used inside Adolescent only. They are not shared with clients in any form, not even inside a total.
We will say all of this again at the moment we ask, not only here.
4.4 What you post
Posts, comments, images, video, captions, tags and links you add. Likes and reactions. Which posts you saved. Who you blocked. What you reported.
4.5 What we record about your activity
Which certification or orientation modules you have watched, how far through each video you got so it can resume where you stopped, whether you passed the quiz where there is one, and how many attempts you made. Your XP, tier and position on the leaderboard. Which projects you took part in, your role, and the stage each reached. When you last opened the app.
We do not record which opportunities you applied to. Applying takes you out of the app to a form. The app notes that the link was opened and nothing more. There is no application record, no status against your name, and nothing in our dashboard that says where you applied and what happened. Selection history lives in our internal records, entered by staff, not tracked by the app.
4.6 What we collect automatically
Sign in times. Device type and operating system version. App version. A push notification token if you allow notifications. Basic crash and error information. A small number of usage events, including when the app opens and when an outbound link to an opportunity is tapped, so we know which posts are working.
We do not use advertising identifiers, and there is no advertising in the app. There are no third party advertising trackers.
4.7 Guardian and agreement records
If you are under 18, we hold your guardian's name and email address, and a record of whether consent has been given.
If you sign a non disclosure agreement for a project, we hold the record that it was signed and a copy of the signed document.
4.8 What we do not collect
We do not store identity documents. No passport, no driver's licence, no ID upload, no selfie verification. Where an identity check is needed for a specific job, it happens outside the app. We decided this deliberately: holding scans of thousands of people's documents, some of them minors, is a risk worth not taking.
We do not read your messages, because there are none. The app has no direct messaging.
We do not collect precise location. We ask what city you live in. We do not track where your phone is.
We do not collect biometric data.
5 · How we use what we collect
To create and run your account and your memberships
To show you the feed, the Spaces and the profiles of other members
To decide which opportunities and studies you are eligible for, and to notify you when one is posted
To run certification and orientation and to record that you passed
To run XP, tiers and the leaderboard
To let producers and researchers at Adolescent find the right members for a job
To describe the networks to clients in totals
To pay you
To moderate the community and act on reports
To send you the notifications listed in the app's settings, which you control
To keep the app working, fix problems and prevent abuse
To meet our legal obligations, including tax reporting on money we pay you
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising purposes.
6 · Who sees your information
Other members
Other members of the same network can see your name, handle, city and state, pronouns if you gave them, profile photo, bio, the social and portfolio links you added, your roles or interests, your membership badge, whether you are certified, your posts and comments, your tier and title, and your leaderboard position.
They cannot see your email address, your phone number, your date of birth, your postal code or street address, your demographic answers, your guardian's details, or anything in your moderation history.
Adolescent staff
Staff can see member records in order to run the networks, choose people for work, moderate the community and process payments. Staff also keep their own notes about members, which live in our internal system and are never visible to you or to other members.
Clients, and what a client shortlist actually is
This is the part most worth reading carefully.
Clients see totals about the network. How many members, what disciplines, what age bands, what locations, what demographic composition. No names.
Clients also see shortlists, when you are being considered for a specific job.
A shortlist is a web page with a link, not a login. There are no client accounts. Staff prepare a page of selected members and send the link to the client. Anyone who has the link can open the page.
A shortlist carries your name, handle, photo, bio, your general location, your discipline, role, skills and equipment, the professional links you gave us, and only the pieces of work that have been approved for sharing. Work is not on a shortlist unless it has been marked as shareable.
A shortlist never carries your email, your phone number, your exact date of birth, your exact home address, our internal notes about you, pitches of yours that were not selected, anything in your moderation history, or your demographic answers.
Naming you individually alongside your demographic answers requires your explicit and separate consent. If you are under 18 we do not do it at all.
The public
There are two ways something of yours can become publicly visible, and they work differently on the two networks.
Storyteller: you publish a portfolio. Your profile lives inside the app by default. Publishing a public portfolio page is a separate, deliberate action that you take, and you can undo it at any time. It unlocks once you have completed the full certification course.
Youthteller: you consent, and we switch it on. Youthtellers do not get a publish button. Instead there is a casting profile, used when a client needs to see real young people for a project. It only ever goes public when both of these are true:
You opted in, in advance, through a specific setting in your profile
You are 18 or over. A minor's profile is never made public, whatever the settings say
When it is public, a casting profile shows your photo, your first name and last initial, your city, your age bracket rather than your date of birth, your interests, and your posts. Nothing else. You can withdraw the consent at any time and the profile comes down.
Client shortlist links, described above, are also publicly reachable by anyone holding the link.

7 · If you are under 18
This section is the one to read if you are 13 to 17, and the one to show a parent.
You can join, look around, post, comment and take part in the community.
Paid work needs a guardian to agree. Here is what happens:
You apply for the opportunity as normal
The app tells you that a guardian needs to agree first
You give us your guardian's name and email address
We record that consent is needed, and our team can see it
The agreement itself is signed outside the app, through our e signature process
Once it is signed, our team marks it done
Only then does the Accept button work for you
You will also be asked the same question on the application form itself. That is on purpose, not a mistake. The app tracks consent centrally, and the form puts the agreement in front of your parent for that specific job.
Some questions do not appear for you at all. Sexual identity, political affiliation and religious background are not asked of anyone under 18.
Two questions wait for permission. Racial identity and gender identity are not asked of you until a guardian has agreed. After that they appear and they are still optional.
Your demographic answers stay inside Adolescent. They are used to match you to suitable research. They do not go to clients, not individually and not as part of a total.
Your profile is never made public while you are under 18. Youthteller casting profiles are for adults only, and the app enforces that regardless of what is switched on in settings.
Surveys and studies posted in the app are links, not forms. No sensitive question is ever asked inside the app's own channels. When you open one of those links you will be asked to confirm your age or that a parent has agreed before you can continue.
On your 18th birthday the app updates your status. We will ask you once, and only once, whether you want to answer the questions that were withheld from you. Saying no makes the prompt go away permanently. You can change your mind later in settings.
If your date of birth turns out to be different from what our older records said and you are in fact under 18, your account re gates immediately. Any answers already on file for the three questions minors are not asked are deleted, not hidden. We will tell you plainly what changed and why. This is a normal correction, not an accusation. Our older records came from a system that did not collect verified dates of birth, so this happens, and nothing bad follows from it.
Parents and guardians: write to community@adolescentcontent.com. You can ask what we hold about your child, ask us to correct it, withdraw your consent, or ask us to delete the account entirely.
8 · Your choices
Change almost anything. Your profile, your bio, your photo, your professional details and every demographic answer can be edited or cleared in settings at any time.
Turn off notifications. In the app, or at the operating system level. Turning them off at the OS level also turns off the new opportunity alert, which is the one most people actually want.
Stop being publicly visible. On Storyteller, take your public portfolio down. On Youthteller, withdraw your casting consent. Either is one action and takes effect immediately.
Control which work can be shared. A piece of work only appears on a client shortlist if it has been approved for sharing.
Leave. Section 9.
Ask us for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to community@adolescentcontent.com. Depending on where you live you may have a formal legal right to these things. We will do it either way, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
9 · Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app. It is in Account settings. It is also on the suspension screen, so a member who has been locked out can still leave.
When you delete your account:
Your profile, posts, comments and uploads are removed from the app
Your personal information is deleted from our systems within 30 days, other than what we are required to keep
What we keep: records of payments we made to you, for as long as tax and accounting law requires; signed agreements, for as long as they are legally relevant; and a minimal record that an account was removed for moderation reasons, so that a suspended member cannot simply rejoin.
Aggregate research findings that already included your answers are not unpicked. They no longer identify you and in most cases never did.
A client shortlist already sent is not recalled. We will remove you from any shortlist still in use if you ask.
Deletion is not the same as suspension. A suspension hides your profile and your posts and is reversible. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

11 · Security
Your data sits in a database with row level security, which means access is enforced per member rather than trusted to the app to get right. Traffic is encrypted. Staff access is limited to people who need it to do their job. Payment details are handled by our payment providers and are not stored on our systems.
No system is perfect. If something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you, and we will tell you what we know rather than waiting until the picture is complete.
12 · Where your data is held
Our database and file storage are in the United States. Video and images are delivered through a content network with servers around the world. Some of the companies listed in section 6 operate internationally.
If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or another region with data transfer rules, your information will be transferred to the United States to run the service.
13 · Changes to this policy
If we change something that matters, we will tell you in the app and ask you to accept the new version before you carry on posting. The version number and the date you accepted are shown under Documents in the app menu.
We are also required to tell the app stores when this policy changes materially, which we will do.
